How do I mute a site?

Open the SiteMute popup while visiting a website, add a domain manually in Settings, or right-click a page or search-result link and choose “SiteMute: Mute this site”.

How do I unmute a site?

Open SiteMute Settings and remove the domain from your muted-site list.

What is Muted Results?

Muted Results lets you leave muted search results unchanged, fade them, or hide them on Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo.

What is Smart Redirect?

Smart Redirect can use the headline you clicked to help you find the same story elsewhere when the destination belongs to a muted site.

Why does Chrome ask for website access?

Smart Redirect and Muted Results need access to the pages where those features operate. SiteMute requests that optional access when you enable those features.

Can I temporarily open a muted site?

Yes. You can visit once or allow the site for 10 minutes. When the temporary access expires, future visits are muted again.

How do I move my settings to another Chrome profile?

Open Settings, export your SiteMute settings as JSON, then import that file in the other Chrome profile. If Smart Redirect or Muted Results was enabled, Chrome may ask you to restore website access after import.

Does SiteMute bypass paywalls?

No. SiteMute does not unlock or bypass protected content. It helps you avoid sites you muted and look for alternative coverage elsewhere.

Does SiteMute sell browsing data?

No.
